If the quoted price was in fact the same as the transaction price, then we would not have any negotiations the automotive industry. Setting the quoted price is an art and posting on the internet has made it even more complicated. The asking price should be enough to draw the buyer into the dealer. Set it too high and they won't even bother contacting you. Set it too low and you don't have enough negotiating power.
